Let Your Smile Shine Bright with Professional Teeth Whitening
Too often we only think about looking our best during important events, but in reality your appearance, and how you feel about it, impacts your life day-to-day. When you’re confident about your smile, you don’t hesitate to show it!
Confidence matters in social situations, in professional settings, and in every aspect of your life. If you don’t like to smile because your teeth are discolored or stained, you may seem more reserved or less friendly.
The skilled professionals at Nobel Dentistry in Los Angeles, California, led by Dr. Abraham Nobel, understand that having a smile you’re happy to show can change your life, in both subtle and dramatic ways. You might feel more confident about applying for a promotion, or asking someone intriguing on a date, or even something as simple as hosting a dinner party. Whatever the situation, your bright, shining smile can improve it — and professional teeth whitening can help you feel good about smiling.
Why professional teeth whitening?
Yes, there are over-the-counter products available, but they simply don’t deliver the kind of results you get when you have your teeth professionally whitened. That’s because we use gels that contain up to 40% hydrogen peroxide solutions, the strongest whitening chemicals available. Whether you have stains as a result of tobacco use or particular foods and beverages, or discoloration due to aging, we can help.
Because the chemicals we use are so powerful, it’s important for them to be applied and monitored by professionals. You end up with whiter teeth, but the process is safe and maintains the health of your teeth and gums. It’s quick, too! You can have your teeth whitened on your lunch break.
Getting ready
You don’t need to do anything special before your appointment. When you arrive, our team gets you ready. First, we perform a thorough cleaning to remove bacteria and plaque. This step allows the whitening gel to better penetrate through your enamel.
During this step, our staff also looks for any kind of potential problems, such as tooth decay, gum disease, cracked teeth, or other issues. Even a small problem could be irritated by the whitening agents. If it turns out you have an issue, we’ll treat that first and your whitening may need to be postponed.
The next step in the preparation phase is for our staff to guide you through the process of demonstrating how the color of your teeth will change during the treatment. You may think you want the whitest, brightest shade possible, but there are many reasons you may not. We walk you through the process so you know exactly what you’re getting.
The whitening process
We use a cheek retractor so that we can easily reach your teeth and to protect your lips and cheeks from the whitening agent. Then we use a protective gel or guard to protect your gums and the soft tissue between your teeth.
The next step is to apply the whitening agent to the front of each of your teeth.
During the whole process, we monitor your progress, to make sure that you don’t have any kind of adverse reaction to the gel and to make sure the correct shade is attained.
Usually, the whole process takes about an hour. Once it’s finished, you just brush your teeth, rinse your mouth, and carry on with your normal day. No recovery time is required.
Keeping your smile bright
You may have some heightened sensitivity after your treatment. However, the gel we use, like other professional-grade whitening agents, includes fluoride and potassium nitrate and other desensitizers to help reduce sensitivity.
Immediately following your treatment, your teeth may look whiter than you expected. Within a day or two, you’ll be able to see your long-term results. Depending on your goals, the original state of your teeth, and other factors, we may recommend a second treatment.
Most of the time, the results last between one and three years. There are steps you can take to help extend that time, including:
- Avoid dark or acidic foods and beverages such as coffee, red wine, and blueberries
- Rinse your mouth after meals
- Don’t smoke tobacco at all
- Schedule and attend all regular dental appointments for cleanings and exams
