Dental Implants Q&A

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are tooth replacements. They consist of at least two parts, including a post that screws into your jawbone and a crown that serves as your new tooth.

A dental implant replaces a single tooth, but you can also get an entire arch of teeth replaced using a dental implant and dentures combination called All-on-4®.

What are the parts of individual dental implants?

The two parts of most dental implants are:

The post

Generally, dental implant posts are made of titanium or zirconia, both of which are biocompatible metals that fuse with your jawbone to substitute for tooth roots. Nobel Dental uses the industry’s leading dental implant systems, including those from Straumann®, Nobel Biocare®, and Astra.

The crown

The crown is a new porcelain tooth. Nobel Dental team a state-of-the-art digital scanning system to gather the information needed to make a perfectly fitted new tooth to attach to the implant post.

The Nobel Dental team works closely with an oral surgeon, who places the implant post in your jaw. Then, your dentist takes over to fit your new crown in place.

How does All-on-4 work?

All-on-4 is a complete upper or lower tooth arch supported by four dental implants. Your oral surgeon places the dental implants in four key positions in the arch, where they’re most effective as support.

Then your Nobel Dental specialist attaches the permanent denture arch to the implants for a flawless-looking complete arch replacement.

Depending on your particular needs, you can also get All-on-6 (six implants) or other variations of this system. Nobel Dental can work with the oral surgeon to place your new replacement arch the same day as implant installation.

How are implants superior to dentures?

Dentures stay in place through suction, which means that they’re often quite vulnerable to shifting. If you have dentures, you have to do a fairly extensive daily cleaning routine to prevent bacteria transfer when you put the dentures in.

Dental implants, whether a single implant or a full arch, like All-on-4, are permanently in your mouth. You won’t worry about them shifting, sliding, or falling out of your mouth.

You only have to keep up good oral hygiene at home to enjoy beautiful and fully functional teeth replacements with dental implants.
